Physical Protection

IIBR is the leading research laboratory in Israel in the field of physical protection (skin and respiratory research).

The physical protection group specializes in sorption and filtration processes, R&D of filter canisters, research on chemical agent permeation through protective clothing and evaluation of protection conferred by respirators, air blowers and protective suits.
Filter Adsorption Test System
Activities
  • Development of mathematical models for predicting filter shelf-life under constant as well as simulated breathing airflows
  • Development of personal filters with lower airflow resistance
  • Investigation of the permeation mechanism of noxious vapors through polymeric and carbon cloth barriers
  • Measurements of permeability of nerve and blister agents through polymeric and carbon cloth barriers
  • Measurements of protection factors of gas masks and personal hoods under standard human test activities in an aerosol exposure chamber
  • Evaluation of blowers used in respiratory protective equipment
  • Formulation of standard testing protocols that represent realistic conditions
